Advertising formats in digital editions

You can place ads within the inner pages of Kärkimedia’s digital editions. These ads are displayed to readers as they move from one page to another, offering high visibility as a natural part of the reading flow.

Inner page advertising in digital editions is one of the most impactful digital solutions available in news media, offering versatile opportunities to showcase your brand. A traditional still image ad is a clear and effective way to capture attention, but digital editions also enable the use of tablet and mobile touch interfaces to add interactivity.

Formats such as video ads, multi-page executions, and native content enhance the reading experience and encourage deeper engagement. These interactive formats make your ad a more integrated and memorable part of the user’s journey through the digital edition.

  • High-quality JPG or PNG image, the maximum combined file size of vertical and horizontal images is 5 MB
  • Two material images are required, but you can deliver only one redirect link for the campaign
  • A link area the size of the full image is added to the material
  • Impression pixel tracking cannot be appended to the material; impressions and clicks are reported in a separate report
  • Materials cannot be run in rotation
  • No tag materials
  • The ad is displayed on mobile, tablet and desktop devices of different sizes. The image material is scaled automatically to fit the screen. A black margin is automatically added around the edges if the aspect ratio of the screen is different.

Only portrait format is required for the material.

  • Portrait orientation W768 x H960 px
  • Ad format only jpg or png
  • No tag or html5 materials
  • Image + link to the advertiser’s desired website
  • The maximum file size is 200 kb.

Delivery of materials

Materials must be submitted at least 2 business days before the campaign start date.
Materials should be uploaded using the delivery link provided after the reservation is confirmed.

Advertising in digital editions — prices 2025

The video appears as a full-page ad and plays automatically when the user reaches the ad view. By default, sound is off, but viewers can enable it by clicking the audio icon in the bottom right corner. This format blends motion with high visibility to deliver a dynamic and immersive brand experience.

Video ads are available in 24 digital editions:

Technical instructions:

  • Video file in mp4 format (max. 500 MB)
  • Poster image in the background of the video as a JPG or a PNG file
    • The aspect ratio of the poster image should be roughly the same as in the video.
    • The poster image is displayed if the video cannot be played because the user is offline, for example.
  • Background images with vertical and horizontal orientation as high-quality PNG or JPG files
    • vertical image: 1536 x 2008 px
    • horizontal image: 2048 x 1496 px
  • Link to the campaign page

The ad works on the user’s device with both vertical and horizontal orientation. The video player is placed in the centre of the ad on top of the background images delivered by the advertiser. The text and image elements in the background should be placed so that they are not entirely covered by the video.

  • The width of the vertical video is about 95% of the background image
  • The width of the horizontal video is about 80% of the background image

Note that the video is not clickable. Clicking on the video will pause it. The background image will serve entirely as a link area.

Body text: no length limit – but keep in mind that longer is not always better!
You may use headings, bullet lists, quotes, and links to structure the content.
Please submit text material as a Word document or .txt file.

Images & Videos

Main image: 16:9 aspect ratio, minimum size 1920 × 1080 px
Additional images: vertical or horizontal, minimum width 1300 px, maximum of 5 images
File format: JPG only
Captions: max. 200 characters. Include image credit at the end of the caption, for example:

Videos can be embedded by providing a link from platforms such as YouTube or Vimeo.

The browsable insert is a multi-frame ad format that allows users to navigate through several ad views by swiping vertically or using arrow buttons. Each view includes a call-to-action button linking to the campaign site. The insert is built in a responsive rich media format, ensuring smooth functionality in both portrait and landscape orientations across devices.

Advertising in digital editions – prices 2025

Material Link & Uploading

A material upload link will be sent automatically to the material provider’s email once the ad reservation has been received by Kärkimedia and the campaign’s first start date is no more than 14 days away.

Materials can be uploaded immediately after the link is received. The link remains active until the deadline, allowing you to update or replace materials if needed.

Accepted Formats

You may upload banners in the following formats:

  • Image files: PNG, GIF, JPG

  • HTML5

  • Third-party tags

Please ensure that the material matches the exact size of the ad format reserved from Kärkimedia. The system will automatically validate the dimensions upon upload and notify you of any errors. Once corrected, the material will be forwarded to the newspapers.

Reminders & Deadlines

For publication dates with upcoming deadlines, the system will send an automatic reminder email 2 hours before the material deadline — but only if the material has not yet been uploaded.

Materials must be submitted no later than 2 business days before the campaign starts, by 12:00 PM (noon). After the deadline, the upload link will become inactive. If needed, the Kärkimedia service point can reactivate the link upon request.

Campaign Confirmation

The campaign must be confirmed at least 5 business days before the start date. If the campaign is not confirmed by the deadline, the reservation will be automatically canceled.

Cancellations

All cancellations must be made no later than 5 business days before the campaign start.
If a confirmed campaign is canceled:

  • Less than 5 business days before the start, 50% of the campaign’s net price will be charged

  • Less than 2 business days before the start, 100% of the campaign’s net price will be charged

Material delivery

Campaign materials must be submitted at least 2 business days before the campaign begins (by 12:00 PM).

Translations (fin-swe)

If your campaign materials require translation, we recommend allocating an additional 2–3 business days to allow for sufficient processing time.
